About the Event

Open to the public! We will be building Francis & Fern's new enclosure. It will be much bigger than what they are in now, and will be able to hold another rescued duck (or two)! We will be building their fencing and digging out a large area for their new pond. If we get to it, we will also work on building our compost and removing California grass from our garden.

All ages welcome. Volunteers may leave at any time, but must show up at either 9AM or 11AM. We ask that everyone arrives on time, at either of these times, so we can go over safety guidelines and our plan together.

We will provide a lunch of peanut butter & jelly sandwiches. We ask that everyone brings their own re-usable water bottle. We will have a water cooler for refills on-site. We are striving to be zero-waste and therefore will not have any single-use plastics available.

Additionally, we require everyone to wear closed-toe shoes. Sneakers are fine during this dry season :) Because it has been very sunny, you will like having a hat for sun protection, too. And because we live in Hawai'i, bring your raincoat, just incase. Bring sunscreen and bug spray as well (we will have both if you forget). If you have work gloves, bring those. We do have a few shovels, but it doesn't hurt to bring more from home if you have them.

And finally, please select "going" on our facebook event (link is here: https://www.facebook.com/events/335747733808017/) if you plan on attending so we can have an accurate count of volunteers. The sanctuary has limited parking so it is imperative that we have an accurate idea of who is attending, so we can plan accordingly. Aloha!!
