Felicio's story cannot be told without telling the story of his mama Gaia. In 2020, she was discovered by a friend and fellow animal lover Claude. Gaia was owned by a farmer in Waimānalo and kept on a rope and considered a “lawn mower." The rope she was kept on became twisted around her leg, and was left like that for so long that her leg completely rotted off. No anesthesia, no antibiotics. Although she was completely neglected, she survived. Thankfully, Claude convinced the farmer to give Gaia to him. Claude told us that when he met Gaia, she was filthy and completely covered in feces. He said there were dead pigs and other animals all over the property as well. There was serious neglect and animal cruelty occurring at this local, backyard farm.
Gaia was rescued by Claude, and during her recovery, she became pregnant with her sweet baby Felicío. Momma and son were inseparable, even with Felicío being an adult. They were best friends and could always be found snuggling or just enjoying each other's company. Gaia has since passed and Felicio is adjusting to life without his mama, but he is still the sweetest and most trusting boy and we hope to find him a companion/s soon.
