Haku was raised on a small backyard farm, and was being listed for slaughter on Craiglist. He was being advertised as a Thanksgiving meal.
When our co-founders met Haku, they made the decision to rescue him. He became the sanctuary's first rescued resident and piggy ambassador. At the time of his rescue, the co-founders were still in the process of finding land to build the sanctuary on. Saving Haku put pressure on the organization in the best way possible. As everyone knows, land was acquired and Haku moved in on New Year's Eve, 2018.
Today, Haku enjoys spending his time with his soulmate Eleanor. The two can often be found snuggled in their barn, lounging under their pig patio, fighting over food, wallowing in a mud bath or water basin, etc. but they are always together.
Haku is very photogenic and has a super specific way of eating watermelon, papaya, and other large, chomp-worthy fruit. He also likes to help with projects-- all sorts (installing new tarps, shelters, laying down mulch, cleaning up poop, etc.). You can always count on him to come tromping through whatever you are working on and absolutely destroy it.
Haku has adoringly been called "Cow-Pig" due to his spotted appearance. He loves to say hi to visitors on tours and also enjoys a good belly or ear rub.
